There was a story in Salon last week about how the FDA has quietly changed its requirements for organic farmers in a way that will make it too expensive for small farmers to get the organic label.

This all seems in the same boat, really.
My school cafe is currently selling truly fair trade coffee, which is purchased directly from the growers. They get a whole lot more $ for it that way. Currently going for about $10/lb. Sometimes, I love living in SF, even though I don't drink coffee.
